DAY 5-- Summary of Lecture

eDemocracy represents the use of information and communication technologies by selected actors within political and governance processes of local communities. This covers everything from the political campaigning on the internet and the government’s use of the internet to raise awareness and debate on issues to the people’s use of new technologies to criticise governments and reveal their mistakes.

the increasing concentration, centralisation and commercialisation of the mass media appear to have foreclosed avenues for democratic participation in the current representative democracy. Free speech was also discussed in the lecture as it allows citizens to discuss the key attributes of democracy.

Computer hackers and cyberpunks were also discussed. Computer hackers are people who seek to free information whilst, Cyberpunks are referred to as part of a science fiction genre based around the possibilities of interent in computers, genetics, body modifications and corporate developments in the near future.
